How booking, escrow, verification and payouts actually work. If your question is not here, talk to us.
Booking a job
How do I book an artisan?
Download the Tuse app, create an account, and say what you need doing. Tuse matches you with verified artisans near you who work in that category. You pick one, agree the time, and confirm the booking.
You see the price before you commit. There is no haggling at the gate and no chasing anyone on the phone.
Do I have to know exactly what is wrong?
No. Describe it in plain words — "my AC isn't cooling", "leaking kitchen tap", "barber for tomorrow" — and the app works out the category. If the job turns out to be different once the artisan inspects it, the price is revised in the app before any further work starts.
What areas do you cover?
Tuse matches on location, so coverage depends on which verified artisans are active near you. Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt have the deepest coverage. Open the app and enter your address to see who is available at that address right now.
Can I book for someone else, or for another address?
Yes. Set the job address to wherever the work is happening, and add the contact details of the person who will be there to let the artisan in. They get the tracking updates too.
Can I request the same artisan again?
Yes. Past artisans appear in your booking history, and you can book them directly if they are available and still cover your area.
Payments and escrow
When am I charged?
You pay into the app when you book, but the artisan does not receive that money yet. It is held in escrow.
The funds are only released to the artisan once the job is marked complete. That is the whole point of paying through Tuse rather than handing over cash: you do not pay before the work is done.
What does "held in-app" mean?
It means Tuse holds the payment between you and the artisan. Neither side can take it unilaterally. If the job is completed, it goes to the artisan. If the job does not happen, it comes back to you. If there is a dispute, it stays put until the dispute is settled.
What if the job costs more than the quote?
The artisan raises a revised price in the app with a reason, and you approve or decline it before the extra work begins. Nothing is added to your bill without you agreeing to it first.
If you decline, you only pay for what has been done up to that point.
Can I pay the artisan directly in cash?
We strongly advise against it. Paying outside the app means no escrow, no record, no dispute cover, and the job does not count towards the artisan's rating. If an artisan pressures you to pay in cash, please report it.
How do I get a receipt?
Every completed booking has a receipt in your booking history in the app, showing the artisan, the job, the date and the amount. For business accounts, these can be pulled together for your finance team — see Tuse for Business.
Cancellations and problems
The artisan did not show up. What now?
Open the booking in the app and report it. Because the payment is still in escrow, the artisan has not been paid — nothing has left your side. Tell us and we will return the funds and rematch you.
No-shows count against an artisan's record, and repeat offenders are removed from the platform.
How do I cancel a booking?
Cancel from the booking screen in the app. Cancelling before an artisan has set out is straightforward. Once an artisan has travelled to you, a call-out charge may apply, because their time and transport are real costs — the app tells you before you confirm the cancellation.
The work was not done properly.
Do not mark the job complete. Raise it on the booking while the payment is still held, and the funds stay in escrow while it is looked at. We will ask you both for your account of it and, where useful, photos.
If the work was genuinely not delivered, you are refunded. If it needs finishing, we arrange for it to be put right.
Something was damaged or went missing.
Report it to us straight away through the booking, with photos if you have them. Every artisan on Tuse is identity-verified with a home address and a bank account in their own name on record, so there is a real, traceable person behind the work — that is precisely why we verify to that depth.
If it is a criminal matter, contact the police on 112 or 199, then tell us so we can suspend the account and preserve the record.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are raised from the booking in the app. Where the money is still in escrow, returning it is quick. Once it has been released to a bank, it takes as long as your bank takes to post it.
Verification and safety
What does "verified" actually mean on Tuse?
Before an artisan can be booked, they clear all of the following:
- Government ID confirmed, with name and photo matched against valid identification
- Facial verification at signup, matching the face on the profile to the face on the ID
- Trade competence assessed for the specific categories they list
- Home address on record, so every artisan is traceable
- Bank account tied to their own verified identity
After that, the rating is maintained job by job. Ratings come only from paid jobs, and low performers are removed.
How do I know the person at my door is the right one?
The app shows you the artisan's name, photo and rating when you are matched, and you track them to your door. If the person who turns up does not match the profile, do not let them in — cancel and report it in the app.
Can I see an artisan's record before booking?
Yes. Every artisan carries a live record in the app: jobs completed, repeat customers, response time, on-time arrival and their rating. It is drawn from real completed jobs, not self-reported.
How do I report an artisan?
Use the report option on the booking, or write to info@tuse.ng. Reports go to the trust and safety team and are not shared with the person you are reporting. See the community guidelines for what crosses the line.
For artisans
How do I join as an artisan?
Download Tuse Artisan, the separate app for people doing the work. You will be asked for your ID, a face check, your address, the trades you work in, and the bank account your payouts should go to. Once you clear verification, jobs near you start coming through.
What do I need to sign up?
- A valid government ID
- A phone that can take a clear photo of your face for the match
- Your residential address
- A bank account in your own name — payouts cannot go to someone else's account
When do I get paid?
The customer's money is held in escrow from the moment they book, so the funds for your job already exist before you set out. Once the job is marked complete, the payout is released to your verified bank account on schedule. You do not chase anybody.
Do I have to travel across the city?
No. You set the radius you are willing to work in, and you only receive requests inside it. That is deliberate — hours lost crossing town are hours you are not earning.
Can I turn down a job?
Yes. You choose which requests to accept. But accepting a job and then not turning up affects your record, because customers planned their day around you.
How is my rating worked out?
Only from paid, completed jobs — so it cannot be gamed by people who never hired you. Your record also tracks response time, on-time arrival and repeat customers. Good work compounds: a strong record puts you in front of more customers.
Account and app
Does the app cost anything?
The app is free to download on iOS and Android, for both customers and artisans. You pay for the jobs you book, nothing else.
Which app do I need?
There are two. Tuse is for booking artisans. Tuse Artisan is for doing the work and getting paid. Both are on the App Store and Google Play — see about the app.
How do I change my phone number or bank details?
From your profile in the app. Changing bank details on an artisan account triggers a re-check, because payouts must always go to an account in your own verified name.
How do I delete my account?
Request deletion from your profile in the app, or write to info@tuse.ng from the email address on the account. Bear in mind that records tied to completed jobs and payments are kept where the law requires it.
